2019 Georgia athlete Trimarcus Cheeks has been patiently waiting for that first big offer.

While he’s been fortunate enough to get a handful of offers, he had no Power Five ones–until today.

Cheeks was one of the hundreds of players participating the last couple of days at a football camp in Athens, Georgia put together by Pitt and Georgia.

This afternoon, he received the big news he was patiently waiting for.

“My dad was right with me when I received the offer and he was just as excited as I was,” said Cheeks.

“When we first arrived there were a lot of kids at the camp so I don’t know if they (Pitt staff) really noticed me. Coach Harley and I had been keeping in contract through Twitter and stuff like that. While we were working out, Coach Harley saw me and I said, ‘What’s up coach.’ As I was doing through the drills, Georgia actually came up to me too and told me they wanted to do a private session afterwards,” said Cheeks.

“Then, right after I finished the 1-on-1 drills, Coach Harley and Coach Narduzzi came up to me and told me I had an offer from Pitt. I was shell shocked and thought to myself, ‘did he really say that?’ Then after he said it again, it was real and I knew I got the offer. I was really excited.

The moment was special and one that Cheeks will always remember.

“This offer more was a confirmation of my ability of what I can do and that I’m not just an average guy. I know that if I keep working hard that I’ll get to the top. This is only the beginning for me,” said Cheeks. “Prior to getting this offer, I would watch my film and wonder what are the schools not seeing. I look at other players tapes and think, they’re good but I’m doing the same exact things on tape but they have 30+ offers. Once I got that offer from Pitt today, I just realized that everyone has to take a different route to success.”

Cheeks says that Narduzzi is recruiting him to play outside linebacker/star linebacker.

This Georgia star isn’t wasting any time wanting to learn more about Pitt. Cheeks says that he’s talking with his parents about coming up to Pittsburgh next weekend for a possible three day visit.

Regardless of who Cheeks eventually commits to, Pitt is a place that will be in the running.

“Pitt will always be in my top schools because of this. Also, Pitt has the field that I’m looking to major in sports medicine, they’re number one in the country and that’s a big deal to me too. They have great facilities, practice with the Steelers, knowing all that I’m excited to take a visit next weekend.”
