So far, the reaction to the hire for new Pitt baseball head coach Mike Bell has been overwhelmingly positive, with Kendall Rogers of D1baseball.com telling PSN’s Mike Vukovcan that the hire of Bell shows “Pitt is really interested in winning at a really high level in the league.”

That messaged was echoed by the former and future Pitt players that PSN was able to reach.

Former Pitt infielder Liam Sabino:

“The Pitt baseball program means a lot to many people, myself included, and we all want the best for everyone involved. We are confident that the administration has found a leader who has a great plan for the future, and I look forward to getting to know Coach Bell throughout the offseason.”

Former Pitt pitcher Matt Pidich:

“I’ve never met Coach Bell, but I’ve heard and read great things about him as a coach and player. He comes from a great program at FSU, so with that being said, his knowledge of the game, along with the pieces from Coach Martin, will be great for Pitt baseball. He is well-respected around college baseball and I am looking forward to following the program for years to come.”

Former Pitt outfielder Frank Maldonado:

“I’ve heard nothing but great things. I’m excited to watch the program continue to grow.”

Pitt pitching recruit Billy Corcoran:

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about Coach Bell and I’m glad that he’ll be able to coach us and have Coach Oakes lead us as well.”

Pitt pitching recruit Danny San Pedro:

“[I’m] extremely excited. It’s going to be a big transition from Joe to Bell, but as a team, we will get it done. They hired the right guy if they are serious with what they want the program to become. Big time name for the program. Couldn’t want anyone better.”
