PITTSBURGH — Pitt’s men’s basketball team will wear “Stronger than Hate” warmup shirts on Thursday as the university and its athletic teams continue to show support for the victims of last Saturday’s tragic shooting at Tree of Life synagogue in Squirrel Hill.

Pitt will wear shirts that feature the slogan “Stronger Than Hate” and a Star of David above the Pitt logo. That phrase has been a big part of the message from the Pittsburgh community since the tragedy, and athletic director Heather Lyke said it is important for Pitt to embrace its role in that community.

“Sometimes the strength of the community together overcomes something like that,” Lyke said.

She added that the shirts will also be worn by the band, cheerleaders and dance team and will be part of a campus-wide tribute.

Pitt’s football team is also honoring the victims of the shooting with a decal on the rear bumpers of their helmets when they play Virginia on Friday.
