One year after making its first ACC Tournament and a surprise run to the semifinals, the Pitt baseball team was picked to finish sixth in the seven-team Coastal Division and tied for 11th overall in the 14-team ACC.
Louisville was selected as the favorite by conference head coaches. North Carolina was picked to with the Coastal Division easily, securing 13 of 14 first-place votes and 97 total points.
Behind the Tar Heels were Virginia and Duke (64 points), Miami (61 points), Georgia Tech (59 points), Pitt (24 points) and Virginia Tech (23 points.)
In the Atlantic Division, Florida State (86) finished just behind Louisville (90 points), while Clemson was securely in third with 17 points. NC State (53), Wake Forest (49), Notre Dame (24) and Boston College (19) rounded out the Atlantic side.
All 14 ACC teams will open their seasons on Friday, Feb. 15. The Panthers will start the Mike Bell era against Villanova in Kissimmee, Florida at 3 p.m.
Pitt’s home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5 against Youngstown State at Cost Field. The Panthers will start ACC play at NC State on Friday, March 8.
Additionally, Pitt is scheduled to host Penn State on March 12 and will play West Virginia at PNC Park on May 14.
The 2019 ACC Tournament will run from May 21 to 26 in Durham, North Carolina.
