Keith Gavin Looks Back on 13-3 Season, Ahead to ACC & NCAA Tournaments

After the number of close — and even last-match wins that the 2018-19 Pitt wrestling team has put together, it’s a wonder that second-year head coach Keith Gavin still has all of his hair.

The Panthers finished a battle-tested 13-3, just the fifth time in program history they finished the regular season with 13 or more wins, and while Gavin undoubtedly would have preferred to run up the score a bit more, the point of the regular season is to prepare for the post-season, and not much does a better job of that than pressure-packed matches against quality opponents.

So Gavin is feeling confident as his Panthers prepare for the 2019 ACC Wrestling Championship on Saturday, March 9. Though they finished a game behind co-champions North Carolina and NC State in the conference, they have high expectations for the single-day tournament: win it. Oh, and while they’re at it, have a handful of wrestlers qualify for the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship, which the Panthers are hosting at PPG Paints Arena March 21-23.

Here’s more from Gavin:
