Football Recruiting Enters NCAA-Mandated Dead Period

Published

on

Pitt football had a massive rush of recruiting news over the last two weeks, as the Panthers hosted official visits that led to 11 new recruits for Pat Narduzzi and staff in the Class of 2020.

But the fast and furious pace of recruiting news should slow now, as the players and coaches enter the NCAA’s dead period, when contact between coaches and recruits is restricted.

During the dead period, coaches may not have face-to-face contact with recruits or their parents, they cannot watch them compete or visit their high school.

There will still be some recruiting happening. Coaches can still send letters and communicate by telephone and digitally with recruits. Players can also still contact coaches to give their commitments and see where they stand after the rash of commitments that typically come in June.

The dead period will last until July 25, when there’s a one-week period of lessened restrictions, before another dead period that lasts the entire month of August.

Of course, there will still be plenty of other recruiting news. This weekend is the third of five evaluation weekends for college basketball recruiting
