Junior Defensive End Patrick Jones to Return to Pitt

The Pitt defense will have another big piece returning for the 2020 season.

Junior defensive end Patrick Jones announced Saturday afternoon that he’d be returning to Pitt for his senior season. Jones was one of a few current Panthers that submitted paperwork for possible early entry into the 2020 NFL Draft.

Jones (6’5”, 260) was named All-ACC Second Team after finishing the season with 42 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 4 forced fumbles and 8.5 quarterback sacks.

Now that both Jones and defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman will be returning, Pitt will have one of the top defensive lines in the entire country with Twyman, Jones, Rashad Weaver, Deslin Alexandre, John Morgan, Keyshon Camp, Habakkuk Baldonado, Devin Danielson, Tyler Bentley and incoming 4-star defensive end Dayon Hayes.

Expect that unfinished business includes meeting a certain UNC QB.

Now, I expect there are parties filling Paris Ford’s head with visions of sugar plums. Balancing a higher draft spot versus potential injury is a delicate thing.

I wonder when the NCAA will rule in Hamlin’s sixth year. Given the relationship between him and Ford, it would definitely increase the odds of Ford staying for another year and forming perhaps the best safety duo in college football. Imagine how awesome the defense would be with them in the back and the horses we know will be up front. It could truly be epic.

Can any of these guys play on the offensive line?
