Pitt Hires Four to Fill Strength and Conditioning Staff

Pitt has filled out its strength and conditioning staff, adding Austin Stephan, De’Vaughn Gordon, Tyrone Smith and Brandon Martuccio to the staff that will be led by head strength and conditioning coach Michael Stacchiotti.

Stephan, a Pittsburgh native, comes to Pitt from Mississippi State, where he worked in 2019. He also has experience an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Cincinnati from 2017-18 and was a football sports performance intern at Ohio State in 2016. An Upper St. Clair alum, Stephan was a defensive back at Division III Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio), where he played with Stacchiotti for two seasons.

Gordon also will be coming to Pitt from Mississippi State, where he also spent just one season as an assistant. A Wheeling, W.Va. native, Gordon was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at East Carolina from 2017-18 and North Carolina Central in 2016. He was a running back and wide receiver at West Liberty.

Smith was the coordinator of strength and conditioning at Florida and also coached at Cincinnati and Ohio State alongside Stephan. A Pittsburgh native, he played for Langley High School and Penn State.

Martuccio comes to Pitt from Indiana State, where he was the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the football team and also worked with the volleyball program. Martuccio worked with Stacchiotti as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State in 2018 and both men are Girard, Ohio natives. Martuccio played college football at Washington & Jefferson.
