It’s funny how your life can change in just a week.

Las week, 2022 Chattanooga, Tennessee tight end Karson Gay was waiting for his first college football offers to come in. Now, offers are pouring in for him from Power 5 programs like BYU, Ole Miss, Tennessee and USC.

Gay’s latest offer came on Wednesday from Chris Beatty and the Pitt Panthers.

To say that Gay is excited about what’s happening in his recruitment would be an huge understatement as he told Pittsburgh Sports Now this morning.

“It’s been surreal. The past 5-6 days have been non-stop calls and texts. It’s been crazy. My family and I have been enjoying the moment but freaking out at the same time. We really didn’t expect all this to be happening this fast but we’re glad that it is.”

Gay is a 6’6″, 215 pound athlete that plays both tight end and wide receiver but projects as a tight end in college. The fact that he’s able to run a 4.6, has a 10 foot broad jump and his pass-catching ability is what has coaches very intrigued.

“I think my athleticism interests teams plus I think I’m pretty good at finding the open spots on the field, being where the defense isn’t and taking advantage of that. But honestly, I didn’t think I had enough film really to get all this interest. But I’ve been working with a guy named Buck Fitz from National Playmakers Academy in Nashville, who’s helped me with recruiting and it’s really shot off from there.”

Gay received the news yesterday from Beatty, who has already has a connection to Gay, which explains him taking the lead on his recruitment.

“Right before practice started, my high school coach showed me the text from Coach Beatty, who actually coached my high school coach for awhile,” said Gay. “Coach showed me the text from him that said Pitt wanted to offer me. I was kind of in shock because really, I didn’t know all of this would be happening so fast. I just thought, ‘Wow I just got another offer, my dreams are really starting to come true.”

“I know that Pitt practices right next to the Pittsburgh Steelers. They actually contacted me once before awhile ago telling me that they’d love for me to come out to one of their camps this summer but unfortunately that got canceled. I’ve seen their facilities which are really cool. I know that’s where Aaron Donald and James Conner are from, so yeah I know a little bit about them.”

As far as getting out to visit schools, like all other recruits, Gay is in a holding pattern but is looking forward to start really getting to know some of the programs that are showing interest in him.

“I planned on getting out to some camps this summer in order to get my name out there and to start building a brand because I wasn’t expecting all of these offers,” said Gay. “Now with these offers, I’ve had a few places already that want me to come out to visit, which is something I really want to do. Right now, I really don’t have any favorites because I really haven’t had the chance to talk to anyone extensively or to see the facilities aside from on video or through my own research. In the near future, I’m looking forward to hopefully getting on some calls with some of the coaches in order to start building relationships more and to start taking some visits.”
