It looks like Pitt basketball fans will have to wait until next season to watch Nike Sibande play for the Panthers.
In a somewhat surprising decision, the NCAA has denied Sibande’s request to receive a waiver to immediately play for Pitt this season instead of sitting out until the 2021-22 season.
No reason given yet as to why Sibande’s request was rejected after the NCAA has granted similar waivers to numerous transfers over the last couple of months.
Pitt will appeal the decision.
Sibande transferred to Pitt from Miami (Ohio) after averaging over 15 points and five rebounds the last three seasons.
Pitt was hoping to add his offensive production at guard, which would give the team some much needed depth at the position. Fortunately for Jeff Capel, he will be adding Ithiel Horton to the guard rotation, after sitting out last season after transferring from Delaware.
This news today also impacts Pitt’s recruiting as they’ll only have one scholarship to use for their Class of 2021.
As it now stands, Pitt will only be losing center Terrell Brown from this years roster.
