A big day for the Duquesne women’s basketball program as they officially land the top ranked player in the state of Pennsylvania and the high-ranked player under Dan Burt.
Bethel Park 2021 4-star guard Liz Westphal has signed her Letter of Intent to play for the Dukes. Westphal is ranked 90th nationally by ESPN and one of the top 30 guards in the guards in the country.
Duquesne basketball on Pittsburgh Sports Now is sponsored by The Summit Academy: setting young men on the path to a better future.

“I chose Duquesne because of the commitment shown to me by Coach Burt and his coaching staff throughout my high school years,” said Westphal. “They were so invested in my recruitment not only as an athlete but as a student and what Duquesne had to offer me academically. I’m so excited to be apart of the Duquesne family.”

Westphal is a three-time Pittsburgh Post-Gazette First Team selection and earned second-team all-state honors following her sophomore and junior seasons. Last season for Bethel Park, Westphal averaged 15.2 points, 3.5 assists, 2.4 steals and made 51 3-point shots.
“Liv is an exciting addition to the program,” said Burt. “We always believe in keeping the very best local players home and we have done that again with Liv. Being nationally-ranked in the ESPN Top-100 shows the strong all-around leads guard game that Liv possess. Liv has been coached at Bethel Park High School and in club basketball with the Western PA Bruins. She is ready to make an impact in the college basketball the day she sets football on campus.”
Westphal will be a member of Duquesne for the 2021-22 season.
