According to public tax documents from the school, Pitt’s football and men’s basketball head coaches both saw significant salary jumps in 2020. Pat Narduzzi brought in $4.81 million in 2020, which was a pay raise of just under $800,000. Jeff Capel saw an even greater salary increase last year, earning $3.53 million, which was about $870,000 greater than his 2019 earnings.

Narduzzi’s salary in 2016, his first year at Pitt, was just $1.82 million and Capel made $2.58 million in 2019, his first fiscal year with the program.

Last season, Narduzzi was the 27th highest-paid FBS head coach, and the only ACC football head coaches who made more than Narduzzi were Dabo Swinney of Clemson and Justin Fuente of Virginia Tech.

Capel was 38th nationally in 2020, and was sixth among the ACC, behind Mike Krzyzewski (Duke), Roy Williams, (North Carolina), Chris Mack (Louisville), Tony Bennett (Virginia), and Jim Boeheim (Syracuse).
