Another local product has found a home in NCAA football as Obama Academy defensive back and wide receiver Rashan Murray committed to The University of Akron Friday morning. Murray is a 6-foot-1, 180 pounds rising senior who has previously been a named 1st Team All-Conference player.

“I would like to give all glory to God for blessing me with this amazing opportunity. I want to thank my dad, I know he’s proudly watching over me. I also want to thank my mom, my brothers, and my sister, my coaches, my friends, and my family for pushing me to be my best,” Murray said via Twitter.

Murray previously visited Akron for a visit in mid-June going in without any D1 offers. But both parties left the meeting impressed and Murray received an offer in which he has accepted.

“Playing at the division one level has always been a dream for me. I want to thank the Akron coaching staff for getting me a step closer to that. With all being said I will be committing to the University of Akron,” said Murray.

The speed of Murray has been his biggest asset in impressing Akron head coach Tom Arth. Murray just recently clocked in a 4.5 second time in the 40-yard dash.

Akron has been the only division one school to make an offer to Murray, however, twelve division two schools have all made offers. Murray stayed patient and he fulfilled a life-long dream.
