Pitt wouldn’t have been a consideration for Desmond Umeozulu, but that changed following a recent visit to Pittsburgh.

Umeozulu and his family made an unofficial visit to Pitt on March 19, and he saw plenty to want to explore Pitt further as his possible college destination.

Today, Umeozulu made the difficult decision of narrowing down his long offer list and it included Pat Narduzzi’s Pitt Panthers.

The 2023 four-star defensive end from Flowers High School in Springdale, Maryland has announced a Top  Nine of: Pitt, Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, Clemson, Maryland and South Carolina.

Schools that have extended offers to this Top 200 national recruit but didn’t make his cut included — Florida State, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, USC, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke with Umeozulu following his initial visit to Pitt and he had nothing but glowing remarks about the Pitt program.

“I really didn’t expect what I got from Pitt,” said Umeozulu. “I was definitely different in a good way. Pitt was just a real family structured program. Coach Narduzzi reminds me so much of my high school coach with his values and everything.

”Coach P, he’s definitely a lot better coach than I thought or knew he was. I know can see how their scheme and how they rush the passer so well and why they’re in the Top Five for sacks almost every year. That really stood out and impressed me. The whole staff, especially coach Powell, coach Partridge and coach Narduzzi treated me well. I felt like I was at home.”

Powell and Pitt have been recruiting Umeozulu for a while, in fact, they were the third program to extend him an offer.
