Just weeks after joining the Pitt hoops program, incoming freshman Jorge and Guillermo Diaz-Graham received a prestigious honor in regards to their rising basketball careers.
On Tuesday, both brothers were selected to the 16-player list of candidates for Spain’s U20 team that will compete at the upcoming FIBA Eurobasket Montenegro event in July. Those 16 players will work out for 20 days in Spain and Portugal prior to the event, and after those 20 days, the final 12-man roster will be determined. From there, the team will compete from July 16-24.
Although the twins have been in Pittsburgh recently practicing with the Panthers, their father confirmed to Pittsburgh Sports Now that they will indeed be competing in Spain and Portugal for a chance to represent their country on an international stage.
“In Guillermo and Jorge, we are adding a pair of talented forwards with well-rounded skill sets that not only complement one another but also our current roster of players,” head coach Jeff Capel said after the twins signed with Pitt. “They have both shown excellent shooting ability out to the three-point line as well as a strong overall feel for the game. They have each steadily improved their strength and overall athleticism since arriving in the United States last year and are poised to make an impact at the college level. We are excited to add them to our program and help them continue to develop their games”
In addition to the Diaz-Graham twins, Pitt has added Cashius McNeily, Nelly Cummings, Fede Federiko, Blake Hinson, and Greg Elliott to the roster this offseason. Leading scorer John Hugley also returns to the team, as well as Jamarius Burton, Nike Sibande, and others.
Play Jefferes at hid natural position Small forward and he can excel. He is not a guard and doesn’t have the mechanics to shot beyond the 3 point circle. Review the analysis of Jeffers strengths in high school. Often college coaches ruin players forcing them into positions the team needs filled but they have never played: Dixon Dante Taylor, Dixon, Steve Adams, Dixon, forward who transferred to UNLV, 3 top 50 players.
I do not recall the three players under Dixon
being forced to play out of their natural
position.Taylor just was not as good as his
5 star rating,though he tried his best.The
Can. thought he was ready for the NBA and
did come close to making it after moving
to UNLV.Adams was still learning the game
during his one year at Pitt but was drafted
for the NBA where he continued to develop
his game and became an outstanding NBA
center.
Nice honor for the twins…Others,Will Jeffress & Nate Santos hopefully have memorable years
