Under the Radar 2023 TE/WR Ibrahim Barry Picks Up Pitt Offer from Tim Salem

The term under the radar recruit is used a lot and that’s a very fitting way to describe a player that’s recently entered the Pitt Panthers recruiting radar.

Ibrahim Barry is a 2023 6-foot-6, 200-pound tight end/wide receiver/athlete from Brooklyn Park, Maryland.

How under the radar is Barry? Consider that as of today, he doesn’t even have a recruiting page on either of the national recruiting sites. But, considering what’s taken place with him over the past 24 hours, it won’t be long before that changes.

Prior to this weekend, Barry’s list of offers consisted of Saint Francis, Wheeling University, Bryant, North Carolina Central, Slippery Rock, Alabama State, Rhode Island and Georgetown. Last night, Barry’s recruiting went to a different level as he received offers from Rutgers, Toledo and Kansas.

Today, Barry received his third Power Five offer after hearing from Tim Salem and the Pitt Panthers.

“I feel like a lot of schools that were FCS that were offering me tried to be low key about things and tried to keep me under the radar,” said Barry. “Now, one school took a chance on me and I’m starting to blow up. Saint Francis was the first school to offer me a scholarship and now my options are starting to become a little bit bigger. My mindset after all of this is that I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing. I’m the same player now that I was back then. I wasn’t doing anything wrong then and I was just a player that was under the radar. Despite all of that, I just kept working. I’ve worked really hard. When I practice, it’s for like four hours and I’m the first one there and the last one to leave. I go and get extra work in every day. That’s just who I am.”

“When I talked to Pitt, they said that they needed a bigger receiver, and I wrote back “I’M YOUR GUY” in all caps. I told them that I mean that and hopefully I’m the guy that you want. I told them that I want to come out there and perform for you. He then asked how much I weigh, I told him and then said I currently bench 315 lbs. and I’m only going to get stronger. I would like to stay as a receiver, but Pitt is offering me as a tight end. This is all a blessing and wherever I go, I’m going to be ready to play.”

Last season, Barry collected over 700 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns and although he’d prefer to play receiver, he has the mindset that it’s all about the team.

“I prefer to play wide receiver but I’m a winning type of guy,” Barry said. “Right now, at my high school, I also play outside linebacker, deep safety, corner, tight end, I have even been the backup quarterback. I’m all about winning. I’ll do whatever the team needs me to do and wherever they put me, I’ll perform at a high level.”

Barry tells PSN that he’s making plans to make a visit to Pitt as soon as the dead period is over with.

Pitt’s Class of 2023 currently has 16 members but is without a tight end, and it sounds like Barry is someone to keep your eyes on.

It would be interesting to see his QB footage. Body shape looks a great deal like a good one from Jeannette #11 who went to The Ohio State U.
