Optimism That WR Jerrod Means Will Be Eligible For Pitt This Season

Published

Plenty of the national focus on this season’s Pitt team from the national media has been on the loss of 2021 Biletnikoff Award winner Jordan Addison.

It’s impossible to minimize the departure of Addison, but at the same time, Pitt’s cupboard at wide receiver is hardly empty.

In fact, as a whole, the Panthers’ depth chart at wide receiver is as strong as it’s been in many seasons and it appears to be getting stronger.

With Pitt training camp less than a month away, Pitt is expected to be receiving some important news.

Pittsburgh Sports Now is hearing that all signs are pointing towards and it’s expected that transfer wide receiver Jerrod “Bub” Means will be cleared by the NCAA to be eligible to play this season.

Means (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) started his career at Tennessee, before transferring to Louisiana Tech. The fact that his transfer to Pitt is his second movement is what has his eligibility this season in question.

This addition to the Panthers’ offense is big because of the size and speed Means brings to it. In his lone season at Louisiana Tech, Means caught 22 passes for 430 yards and two touchdowns. A big strength is his ability after catching the ball. In 2021, Means racked up 164 yards (7.5 yards) after the reception.

With this expected news, Pitt will now have a receiving corp of Means, Jared Wayne, Konata Mumpfield, Jaylon Barden, Jaden Bradley Addison Copeland and Che Nwabuko. Along with tight end Gavin Bartholomew, this collection of pass catchers is one of the deepest and most talented in the ACC and the country.

ACC Football Media Day is tomorrow, so Pat Narduzzi might give the official news on this when he speaks to the media.

I hope the rumors are correct … i mean, hey, at this point, why would the NCAA be against anything ? It’s crumbling under the weight of itself.

Looking forward to seeing Jerrod on the field. H2P !
