2024 4-Star Central Catholic LB Anthony Speca Commits to Penn State
While it always appeared as if Pitt was just a step or two behind when it came to Anthony Speca, recent visits and developments had left fans hopeful.
It would have been important for Speca, a 2024 four-star linebacker from Central Catholic High in Pittsburgh, to make it out to the campus either this weekend or next, but that isn’t going to happen now. It appears Pitt was indeed a step behind.
Speca committed to Penn State Tuesday morning, announcing his decision following a visit to State College last weekend.

“First off, I’d like to thank my family. Thank you guys for the endless support and love you’ve shown me. You guys are my rock and the reason why I’m in this position. Secondly, I’d like to thank my coaches. From youth to high school, thank you for the time you took out of your days to help me grow as a football player. Lastly, I’d like to thank God, absolutely none of this could’ve been done without you’re love and guidance.”
It’s a disappointing, if not unexpected, blow that a self-proclaimed Pitt fan would pick Penn State over Pitt. But with Local Junior Day this weekend and Junior Day next weekend, it’s a big weekend of recruiting coming up.
It’s onto the next for Pitt’s recruiting staff. Pitt did land three linebackers in the class of 2023, which includes Jordan Bass, Braylan Lovelace and Rasheem Biles.
247Sports rates Speca as the 328th-ranked recruit in the class (23rd-ranked linebacker and fifth-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania) while Rivals rates him as the 186th-ranked recruit in the class (ninth-ranked inside linebacker and the sixth-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania).
Pitt currently holds verbal commitments from four-star wide receive DayDay Farmer (Cocoa, Florida) and four-star defensive tackle Jahsear Whittington (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania).
Just like I stated yesterday….Speca knows LBU…Carter, Rojas and Speca, oh boy here comes the Natty!

As has been typical for local star recruits, Speca will eventually figure out State Penn false promises and transfer to Pitt.
Yes, Miles Sanders rushed back to play in front of 20k. You get the cast offs, the ones who have MAC/acc talent who come back. Some can’t hang in the SEC or BigTen (big boy football) so Davis, McMillon, Petrishen will come back.
You may have the Big 10 part. But education? Not so sure that’s true anymore.

I know you just come to razz Pitt fans a little and quite honestly it’s funny to see at times, but your constant belittling of Pitt ON a Pitt fan site is a little excessive. Penn State is doing good things and should be celebrated by their fans, but putting down Pitt to make PSU sound better is unnecessary and defeats the purpose.

I try to provide a fair and balanced discussion with facts, but typically the pitt fans just respond with “ped state” or state penn”. It’s comedy gold I know….I can take any criticisms, words don’t hurt me. Weinerhead might be the most mellow putdown I’ve gotten here. Agreed on the not reading comments part. I come to the site for info and insights. The comments are an added pleasure. I used to do Cardiac Hill prior to its demise. There were a few PSU haters on there, but even they made it fun banter. “On Campus” is making it unenjoyable and not because of the negativity. Only because it’s childish.

Don’t read very well doesn’t speak highly of your education. Didn’t apply to your business school. Katz got my money. Oh, and with respect to a band scholarship, Pitt doesn’t have a music school. Two thirds of the band are tech students, myself a chemical engineer. So stuff your superiority complex, PS’s just a wannabe school no matter what the US News and World Report claims. You do host a nice arts and crafts festival every July but Ann Arbor hosts a better one.
