Pitt Lacrosse Falls in the 4th, 11-5

A 6-0 run in the game’s final two quarters made a competitive game look like a blowout for Pitt lacrosse (1-1) who fell to Binghamton (1-1) 11-5 on Thursday.

The game was, quite literally, back-and-forth for almost 75% of the game. As Binghamton scored the first goal to start things up, Pitt followed it immediately with one of their own.

And that’s how things went for much of the game. Every Pitt goal was an answer to a Binghamton goal. Pitt never led in this game, but also never trailed by more than a goal until the fourth quarter.

There was almost no separation for the game’s first three quarters, but that last goal by Binghamton in the third created a one-goal, 6-5 lead heading into the game’s final frame.

Unfortunately for Pitt the game’s final frame was all about widening the Binghamton lead, as they scored all of the quarter’s five goals. In total, it was a 6-0 run that Binghamton ended with to secure a 11-5 victory.

Pitt’s collapse in the fourth quarter was reflected in the stat sheet. Goalie Hannah Van Middel made all seven of her saves in the first half and lost the turnover battle in the fourth 4-to-2. Although, they did overcome seven turnovers in the first quarter.

Four different Pitt players scored a goal in the game with Camdyn O’Donnell scoring two. Maeve Murray, Emily Coughlin and Rachel Familetti scored the other three goals.

Familetti’s goal was her first of the season while the other three players all had multiple goals in the team’s 16-11 season opening victory against Duquesne.

Pitt falls to 1-1 to start their second season in program history after finishing last year right below .500 at 9-10 (1-7 ACC). They will next travel to Siena this Sunday at noon before starting ACC play against Syracuse at home on February 25th.
