Pitt Hoping Jiavani Cooley Not the Last PA Lineman to Commit

During his tenure as Pitt head coach, Pat Narduzzi has had no problems attracting in-state talent to his program.

Whether it’s signing them out of high school or getting them through the transfer portal, the Pitt football roster is well-represented with Pennsylvania products.

That’s certainly been the case when looking at Pitt’s Class of 2024, as they’ve already received commitments from four Pennsylvania players.

On Saturday, Erie 3-star offensive lineman Jiavani Cooley joined 3-star DE Ty Yuhas (Central Catholic), 3-star RB Juelz Goff (York, PA) and 4-star defensive tackle Jahsear Whittington (Philadelphia, PA) as early pledges for the Panthers.

While getting in-state players is nothing new, the commitment of Cooley did represent something that hasn’t happened in quite a long time.

It was surprising to see that Cooley was the first commitment for Pitt from a Pennsylvania offensive lineman since their Class of 2018, that goes back five recruiting classes. The last commitment that Pitt received from a Pennsylvania offensive lineman was Jake Kradel (Butler), Blake Zubovic (Belle Vernon) and Chase Brown (Scranton).

Like they did back in 2018, Pitt is hoping to get multiple PA lineman and it odds are they have a good shot at that happening.

While they’ve offered and are recruiting a number of players, here are the three players to keep an eye on: Ryan Cory, Adham Abouray and Caleb Brewer

Cory (6’4″, 280-pounds) is a 3-star offensive guard from Pine-Richland High School with Power 5 offers from Pitt, Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Oregon, Penn State and West Virginia. Abouray (6’5″, 285-pounds) is a 3-star offensive tackle from Exton, Pennsylvania with Power Five offers from Pitt, Cincinnati, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia. Brewer (6’5″, 285-pounds) is a 3-star offensive tackle from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania with Power Five offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
