Tyler Bischke announces his commitment to Pitt as a grad transfer

Pitt baseball acquired the services of a former WPIAL player in New Orleans transfer Tyler Bischke on Thursday.

Bischke played high school baseball in the WPIAL for Hampton from 2016-19, where he earned First-Team All-State honors twice. He also played travel baseball for Pittsburgh Diamond Dawgs and led the team to a CABA World Series Title.

He originally started at Kent State and made eight appearances there in the COVID-19 shortened season. Bischke then transferred to the junior college level and played one season at Murray State College in Tishomongo, Okla. Bischke led the team with 57 runs, hit .331, 16 home runs, 35 RBI and stole 16 bases.

Bischke came back to Division I and played with New Orleans the next two seasons. He started 44 of 45 games as a junior in 2022, while hitting .294, 10 doubles, drawing 19 walks and stealing seven bases.

He started and played all 60 games as a senior in 2023. He led the team with 73 hits and 16 doubles, finished second 12 home runs and third with 58 runs, 54 RBIs, 30 walks and a .309 batting average. Bischke earned a spot on the ABCA Second-Team All-South Region and also First-Team Southland Conference honors last season.

Bischke arrives at Pitt as a graduate transfer, giving him one more year of eligibility. He also plays shortstop and will compete with rising sophomore Anthony LaSala for the starting position next season.

He joins another WPIAL graduate transfer in Penn State left-handed pitcher Ryan Partridge, who joined on Monday, and rising junior first baseman Luke Cantwell, who transferred from Fairleigh Dickinson last Saturday.

Pitt baseball has seen at least 10 confirmed players transfer from the program this season.
