The Seattle Mariners selected Pitt right-handed pitcher Logan Evans in the 12th Round of the MLB Draft on Tuesday, making him the No. 367 overall pick.
Evans pitched at rival Penn State for two years, prior to joining Pitt. He made three appearances in 2020, totaling 8.0 innings pitched, 11 strikeouts, eight hits and a 4.50 ERA. Evans pitched out of the bullpen in 2021, striking out 12 batters, while allowing 16 walks, 21 hits and 13 earned runs in 14.1 innings pitched for a 8.16 ERA.
He transferred to Pitt for the 2022 season and pitched there for two seasons as well. Evans started 14 games in 2022, striking out 52 batters to just 17 walks, while allowing 90 hits, 15 home runs and 55 earned runs for a 7.42 ERA. He finished with a 4-8 record in that season.
Evans pitched last season for the Panthers as well. He started in nine of his 11 appearances, accruing a 5-3 record, while striking out 42 batters to 19 walks, Evans also allowed 55 hits, seven home runs and 32 earned runs in 49.0 innings picthed for a 5.88 ERA.
Evans is the fifth player drafted under head coach Mike Bell and the No. 66 player drafted in Pitt history.
He is the third Pitt player that the Mariners have drafted in their history. Evans joins former teammate in catcher Tatem Levins, who the Mariners drafted No. 246 overall in the eighth round in 2022. The Mariners drafted Pitt pitcher Tony Lopez in the 17th round in the 2010 draft.
