With the conclusion of Friday night’s WPIAL semifinal round, the matchups are now confirmed for the 2023 WPIAL Football Championships. While Class-5A and Class 6-A play their games at Norwin High School on Nov. 18, 2023, the remaining four classifications travel to Acrisure Stadium to crown their champions the following week.
Last year’s WPIAL football champions were North Allegheny (6A), Pine-Richland (5A), Aliquippa (4A), Belle Vernon (3A), Steel Valley (2A), and Union (1A). This year, two rematches will be played out at Acrisure Stadium as last year Belle Vernon knocked off Avonworth and Steel Valley defeated Beaver Falls in their respective championship games.
The four championship games that will be played at Acrisure Stadium are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 24, 2023.
Class-1A – Friday, November 24, 2024 – 11:00 AM
No. 1 South Side vs. No. 2 Fort Cherry
Class-2A – Friday, November 24, 2024 – 2:00 PM
No. 1 Steel Valley vs. No. 10 Beaver Falls
Class-3A – Friday, November 24, 2024 – 5:00 PM
No. 1 Belle Vernon vs. No. 2 Avonworth
Class-4A – Friday, November 24, 2024 – 8:00 PM
No. 1 Aliquippa vs. No. 2 McKeesport
Why is Westinghouse not playing in their own stadium in their city the championship game? Why does all the other outside high schools get a chance to play at after sure stadium but not the home team the city league team.
