Tuesday’s Best Bets: MACtion, Cavs-76ers, College Basketball
If it wasn’t for a horrible third period by the New York Rangers, we would’ve had a 3-0 night yesterday. Allowing 5 goals in the final period after being up 2-1 is inexcusable, but we move on. As I predicted, Wisconsin and Virginia played a rock fight game in the Fort Myers Tipoff. Watching that game was painful, at least the FSI feed cutoff on DIRECTV in the final minute with the under well in hand.
The Eagles were able to win outright and cover the +3 in the process. I said they would win the game outright, if you took the moneyline you were a happy many. Today we continue our way through feast week. Yesterday we saw some exciting games in Maui and the other tournaments going on this week.
All of the top teams advanced in Maui, and that shouldn’t change today. Look for high flying Kansas to handle Marquette and Purdue to take care of business vs Tennessee, though it will be a low scoring affair. Gonzaga should be too much for Syracuse to handle.
Now onto the picks.
Bowling Green (-2.5) at Western Michigan O/U 51.5 7:00 pm on ESPNU
We start with a little MACtion to celebrate the last Tuesday game of the MAC schedule. I know only fans of the teams and football diehards like me watch these games, but they are always an interesting watch. Especially if you have money on the game.
Bowling Green comes into Tuesday night with a bowl berth locked up. Last week they took Toledo to the brink and led most of the game before falling by one point. Western Michigan didn’t show up at Northern Illinois in their game last week and were shutout 24-0.
Though Western Michigan offense struggled in their last game, I really like the Over in this game. Overs are 3-1 in Western Michigan home games while Overs are 4-0 when Bowling Green is a favorite, like in this matchup.
A perfect storm for the Over.

We head back to the NBA in-season tournament action for a matchup with one of the hottest ATS teams in the NBA and one missing their best player. Donovan Mitchell will miss his second straight game for Cleveland. The Cavs were able to beat the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets, who were without one of their best players Jamal Murray.
Teams always get a little extra juice when they play the defending champ, look at the Penguins beating the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. But this game will be different against one of the best ATS teams in the NBA.
The 76ers are 10-3 against the spread so far this season and 8-2 when they are listed as favorite. They have covered 6 of 8 at home when listed as a favorite as well. I believe the 76ers will cruise over the Cavs.

Former Pitt coach Jamie Dixon has had moderate success at TCU after being let go by the Panthers in 2016. His 2023 squad might be the best he has had since he arrived in Fort Worth.
Well, at least the most exciting.
The Horned Frogs are averaging over 90 points a game in the first 4 games of the season. Granted, that has been against the likes of Southern and Mississippi Valley St, but points are points in basketball. Tuesday night they get another SWAC member in Alcorn St, who has given up an average of 83 points in their first 5 games.
I believe TCU will have no problem in this matchup and easily cover the -27.5 vs Alcorn St. The first half spread of -17 for the Horned Frogs is also a great bet to make.
