Matt Sieg is one of the most skilled athletes in Western Pennsylvania and he’s already led his team to a WPIAL title. It only makes sense the 2026 prospect is already drawing attention from major college programs, especially ones within the region like WVU.
After last talking with Sieg on the field at Acrisure Stadium following Fort Cherry’s first WPIAL championship in school history in November, WV Sports Now caught up with him again after his most recent trip south to Morgantown. Sieg, who was in town for West Virginia’s Junior Day, talked about his experience with the coaches, how his overall recruitment is going and what he’s planning to work on for next season.
Right off the bat, Sieg described his time at the WVU football facility as getting an up close and personal look at the program and what head coach Neal Brown and his staff are building. He said he followed the Mountaineers’ turn around season last year and what happened in 2023 caught his attention.
Beyond that, Sieg also went into what he was told on his tour. “They kinda just gave me the run down on how a day in the life of the players works, how their program functions with everything from academics to nutrition. It was really interesting stuff,” said the 6-foot-175-pound two-way high school stud.
Even though Sieg is considered as a true athlete and often plays on both sides of the ball, he still considered quarterback his main position. Since that’s the case, he detailed what he thinks of the WVU offense and if he could fit into it as West Virginia’s future signal caller.
“I like their offense and it’s very fun to watch. I like that it’s uptempo and high powered. I think I could definitely succeed there no matter where I play, just off of scheme, but I also think there are great coaches and all the tools to further develop my game in all aspects.”
Sieg did admit that WVU, like most schools he’s talked to, told him they do not currently know what position would suit him best at the college level. “They say that there’s still time to grow and develop so there’s no need to pin something down,” explained Sieg about what he heard regarding his position. Either way, the Mountaineers have shown an interest since extending Sieg an offer in October.
Sieg’s ability to do everything was on full display in the WPIAL 1A Championship Game. In addition to his big four-touchdown game to win the WPIAL crown, Sieg also picked up an interception.

While he plans to just work on everything and develop as a player throughout the rest of his high school career, playing quarterback in college is still his main goal. And to make that dream a reality, Sieg feels he has to work on his reads and be able to lead an offense without strictly relying on his athleticism.
To no surprise, Sieg confirmed he’s also been in communication with both Pitt and Penn State and has future trips to both of those programs on his schedule.
