WASHINGTON — Shortly after Pitt wrapped up its ACC Tournament semifinal game against No. 1 seed North Carolina, the Panthers’ leading scorer on the night shared some news that Pitt fans will be excited to hear.
Pitt star freshman guard Bub Carrington was asked if he will return to the Panthers next season.
“For sure,” Carrington said.
The question quickly grabbed the attention of fellow star guard Jaland Lowe, who looked to his left where Carrington was seated. Carrington led the Panthers with 24 points in a 72-65 loss to the Tar Heels in the ACC Tournament semifinals. Lowe added 17 as well as four assists and four rebounds. The freshman combined to shoot 16-33 with 41 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Carrington played the entire game.
Carrington spoke on growth of the team and how the Panthers can continue to mold as a unit. He isn’t one for bracketology, but Carrington believes Pitt has done enough to make the NCAA Tournament.
Carrington has frequented NBA mock drafts since recording a triple double in his first college game facing N.C. A&T. He entered Friday averaging 13.5 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 32 games. Bleacher Report’s latest mock draft two days ago had Carrington going 25th overall to the Washington Wizards, who play in the same arena as the Baltimore native suited up in for the ACC Tournament.
Awesome!
It’s early.
I know.
Thanks I hope he does stay. Going to need to replace Hinson production somehow. Capel has done an impressive job.
Pitt needs to “SHOW HIM THE MONEY”! Next year could be really exciting if they all come back.
H2P!!!

Lets see how this ages in June. Gun to my head – he leaves. He can always explain this answer by saying he just changed his mind but meant it when he answered.
If he goes to the NBA he doesn’t need to explain this answer. This was obviously an emotional reaction. I honestly find it lame that a couple sites have reported on this as if it’s more than that. Now if he said something like, “yes, i’m definitely staying and not going to the NBA. I want to play with this team another year” it would be a bit different. He was with his teammates in the locker room after an emotional loss. What’s he going to say?
If he goes through the process and gets a promise the opportunity cost of staying is pretty prohibitive. Not only the salary, but endorsements, NBA pension, free agent clock, and more
Pitt will be more than alright at Guard next year what with Lowe & Ish coming back and the Cummings kid coming in. The big big replacement is finding a scoring Forward to replace Blake Hinson. And a Center who can 10 or 12 points a game and has some muscle.
