Two Pitt Players, One West Virginia Player on Wizards’ Summer League Roster

Former Panthers Bub Carrington and Justin Champagnie were formally listed on the Washington Wizards Summer League roster on Wednesday.

Two former Pitt Panthers were officially included on the Washington Wizards NBA Summer League roster.

Former Panthers Bub Carrington and Justin Champagnie were formally listed on the Washington Wizards Summer League roster on Wednesday in preparation for the Wizards’ first Summer League game on Friday.

Carrington will wear No. 17 for the Wizards, while Champagnie will rock No. 9. Former West Virginia guard Erik Stevenson will be on the team as well, wearing No. 36.

The Wizards selected Carrington in this year’s NBA Draft with the No. 14 overall pick. The team also had the No. 2 overall pick, with which it selected Alex Sarr, who will wear No. 12 in Summer League action. With its third draft pick, the franchise selected Kyshawn George out of Miami, who will wear No. 18.

Carrington officially signed his rookie scale contract with the Wizards two days ago.

Carrington started 33 games for Pitt as a rookie, averaging 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. The Baltimore, Maryland native shot 41% from the field and 32% from three-point range in his freshman campaign, and alongside Jaland Lowe and Ishmael Leggett, starred for the Panthers in the back court.

Champagnie signed with the Wizards in March after previously spending time in the NBA with the Boston Celtics. He appeared in 15 games this past season with the Wizards, averaging 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Champagnie started against the Celtics in March, scoring 14 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and totaling two steals.

Champagnie played two seasons at Pitt from 2019-21, earning All-ACC honors in 2020-21. He started 46 games in his Panther career, averaging 14.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in his collegiate career. In his stellar sophomore campaign, Champagnie averaged 18 points and 11.1 rebounds per game in 20 games. He went un-drafted out of Pitt but has now been on several NBA teams and has shined in the NBA G-League as well.
