PITTSBURGH — Kent State is officially on the horizon.

Pitt hit the field Sunday night for the first official practice of the 2024-25 season, and Pat Narduzzi met with the media Monday afternoon at the UPMC Rooney Sports for his first press conference of the season.

And just before he did, Pitt released its first two-deep depth chart of the season, and there are a lot of “OR”s.

Unsurprisingly, there is an OR between Nate Yarnell and Eli Holstein at quarterback. Rodney Hammond Jr. and Desmond Reid also have an OR, as well as Kenny Johnson and Daejon Reynolds. The most notable usage of “OR” comes at defensive tackle with Nahki Johnson, Francis Brewu, Anthony Johnson, Nick James and Isaiah Neal listed as starters. Five usages of “OR.”

Check out the first two-deep depth chart below. There will be more to come on the depth chart and potential usage in the near future.

What happened to the kid on defense from Philly, I think he’s a defensive lineman and freshman. Did he redshirt?

I’ll bet a lot of these “or” situations resolve themselves over the next few weeks when there is some game film for the coaches to watch.

Pat will watch film and review his notes he keeps during the game. Don’t forget that stopwatch to check hang- times Pat!

You have your starters. Subsequently, you have guys that are less experienced, but talented. You have this “or” status to maintain your depth in an attempt to prevent players from entering the portal.
