Pitt Offers Gervin

Pat Narduzzi moved from the East Coast over to Michigan in order to make his latest scholarship offer. This one is to a player in the Class of 2018.

Kalon Gervin from Cass Tech High School in Detroit is the latest player to pick up an offer from the Pitt Panthers.  Gervin’s teammate safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell already has an offer from Pitt.

Gervin (5-11, 175) tells me that Pitt is recruiting him to play cornerback and already holds offers from Illinois, Iowa State, Michigan, South Florida and Penn State.

“My head coach Thomas Wilcher gave me the news. Coach Hill from Pitt has been in contact with my coach a lot during the season”, said Gervin.  “I’ve never been to Pittsburgh but I plan on visiting soon! I know that cornerback Avonte Maddox is from Detroit.”

The fact that Gervin is only a sophomore and has the offers that he does tells you that he’s got talent.  I asked him to tell me what the strengths of his game are.

“All the coaches say they love my speed and ability to play any position in the secondary.  They also like my cover skills and physicality.”

This past season, Gervin finished with 34 tackles, 10 deflected passes and recorded 6 sacks from the cornerback spot.

Being from Detroit and already having an offer from Michigan, is Jim Harbaugh’s team the front-runner for him?

“Yes, Michigan is very high on my list right now but as offers role in I start to think more and more about that.   I know that I have a lot of time to figure things out”, said Gervin.

“I will visit West Virginia this coming weekend and the. Probably Tennessee. And I will definitely look into making it down to Pitt.”

Update –  Gervin just told me that he’s going to visit PITTSBURGH this weekend.
