Michael Smith: “Pitt Is At The Top”

Heading into December, Vero Beach (Florida) wide receiver Michael Smith’s recruiting was somewhat quiet. Smith held a few offers but none from any Power 5 programs. Then Pitt offered on December 3rd and things changed for Smith.

The talented wideout then received offers from Indiana, Georgia Tech and Notre Dame. Smith was no longer an under the radar recruit.

Last night, I had a chance to talk with Smith about his recruitment, where Pitt stands, the Notre Dame offer and if he is close to making a decision.

“Out of all the offers I have, I feel like Pitt is at the top right now. I just love everything that Coach Narduzzi and the coaching staff have to offer when I came to visit. I love everything about the school, the education and I just related to the players on the team,” said Smith.

Smith made his official visit shortly after receiving the offer and like a lot of players, was impressed with the Panthers neighbors on the South Side.

“I didn’t even know that they practiced on the same field as the Pittsburgh Steelers. I was very impressed with everything there, I loved it,” said Smith.

Smith was also impressed with a certain Steeler receiver that he met, Antonio Brown.

“That was a long life goal of mine and he was right there in front of me and I grabbed him and got a picture. He just said best of luck to me in my recruiting process,” said Smith.

Smith plans on making an official visit to Georgia Tech this weekend. Following that, Smith is scheduled to visit Notre Dame and Washington State.

Speaking of Notre Dame, since receiving the offer from Brian Kelly, many have speculated that the Fighting Irish were Smith’s top team. I asked Smith about that.

“No, my mind is on Pitt. Notre Dame is great school and everything but it wouldn’t be a big deal passing them up,” said Smith.

Smith has three visits scheduled but could a decision come before the final visit?

“It’ll probably be very soon. I’m not going to wait till the end.”

Stay tuned.
