After an exodus of seniors graduating and underclassmen transferring and even a decommitment from his initial recruiting class, the program finally got some good news with the announcement that former St. John’s shooting guard and son of Pervis Ellison, Malik Ellison will be transferring to the team.

Malik, who played two season for the Red Storm, averaged 8.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists and shot 42.1% from three as a sophomore.

Originally recruited to St. John’s by Chris Mullin, Malik was a 3-star player out of Burlington, NJ.

Ellison will have to sit out the upcoming season, but will have two years of eligibility remaining.

One side note is that Malik Ellison’s teammate Darien Williams, a graduate transfer, has also expressed serious interest in the Panthers. The 6-foot-8 Williams would be eligible to play immediately as a grad transfer and would provide a big presence in the paint for the Panthers in 2017-18. Will Ellison’s decision to commit to Pitt help lure Williams?
