Pitt-West Virginia to Open Season in 2022

For many years, the Pitt-West Virginia game was the final game on both teams schedule.

However, with conference re-alignment and other factors, the great rivalry between these two teams ended and hasn’t been played since 2011.

Fortunately, the schools recently signed a 4-year deal to renew the “Backyard Brawl” and today we learned that instead of closing the season, this historic matchup will be the opening game on their schedule.

It was announced today that when the game is played in 2022, instead of being played on September 17, it will instead be played on September 3, the season opener for both teams.

The games in 2023 and 2025 will be played in Morgantown, while the game in 2024 will be played at Heinz Field.
