Pitt basketball coach Jeff Capel was a busy man yesterday.
Aside from visiting at least four different high schools in the New York area, Capel made a trip to New Jersey to have a visit with former Robert Morris guard Dachon Burke.
The talented freshman guard is in the process of transferring and Pitt is a school that he’s considering. Burke has already been visited by the staff of St. John’s, while Nebraska is coming tonight and Marquette will stop by tomorrow. He also said that he’s open to any other school that might still approach him.
Tonight, Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up with Burke to get his reaction of his talk with Capel.
“Our talk went great and he’s a really good man. We were talking less about basketball and more about life. What goals I want to reach, things I’m looking for in a school and he was really being honest with me. He knows that Pitt has been struggling and he wants to bring Pitt back up to where Coach Dixon had them. He wants to get Pitt back on the map but knows he needs some more players and he thinks I’m a guy that can help him,” said Burke.
“He likes how competitive and hungry I am to compete. He knows that I’m a guy that can score and believes I can be a big piece of the puzzle.”
So, what’s next for Burke and Pitt? How did Caple leave things with Burke?
“He tried to not make things too complicated. He said obviously we’d love to have you come join us and to let him know and contact him if I want to come up for a visit.”
Burke tells me that this isn’t definite but right now he’d like to make his decision by the first or second week of May.
