Former Gateway standout and top 2019 junior college safety JaQuan Brisker has committed to Penn State, the third 2019 prospect to choose the Nittany Lions over Pitt.
Brisker, who is currently attending Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa., visited with Pitt on May 9, but just nine days later, committed to Penn State.
He is a three-star prospect according to 247 Sports and is listed 6-foot-2 and 197-pounds. Brisker is rated as the No. 9 overall junior college player in the 2019 class. He was also being recruited by Alabama, Cincinnati, Maryland, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Temple, Utah and West Virginia. Former Gateway head coach Terry Smith is Penn State’s assistant head coach, defensive recruiting coordinator and cornerbacks coach.
After his visit to Pitt, Brisker told Pittsburgh Sports Now earlier this week that he wasn’t close to a decision.
“I’m going to try and visit as many schools as I can and try and come out with a Top 10 soon and then bring that down to a Top 5,” he said. “Then those five schools will be the schools I make official visits to. I’ll cut it down even more and then make a decision in December.”
Brisker is the fourth member of Penn State’s 2019 recruiting class, and three of the four have been head-to-head recruiting wins over the Panthers. In addition to Brisker, Penn State landed four-star Princeton, N.J. (Hun School) OL Caedan Wallace and three-star State College, Pa. CB Ceaton Ellis.
Pitt does not yet have a commitment for the 2019 class. Brisker is the third local product to commit elsewhere, with Pine-Richland offensive lineman Andrew Kristofic committing to Notre Dame and Brisker’s former teammate at Gateway Courtney Jackson committing to Syracuse.
