While the results on the field weren’t successful Saturday night, Pitt did do well in terms of getting top level talent to their game against Penn State.

Pat Narduzzi and his staff attracted a number of highly rated recruits to Heinz Field and despite the blowout loss, Pitt received high marks from the players.

Over the last 24 hours, Pittsburgh Sports Now has reached out to recruits that were there to get a quick reaction to the evening. Here’s who we’ve reached and we’ll add to this as more players respond back.

Kyi Wright, LB, Farrell HS, Pitt 2019 Commit

“I feel that the outcome of the game could have been different if Pitt didn’t make so many mistakes. They really never caught a rhythm on offense and they had bad field position all game pretty much. I feel like special teams played a factor in the game as well.”

MJ Devonshire, CB, Aliquippa High School, Class of 2019

Aliquippa cornerback MJ Devonshire

“I think they played well just made a few mistakes on special teams that changed the game.”

Devonshire tells me that the outcome of the game will have no impact on his final decision.

Nick Malone, OT, Morgantown, WV, Pitt 2019 Commit

”I really enjoyed myself. As soon as I got there, I was welcomed in, got to meet the other commits and kind of just got to relax. The overall experience was great. The atmosphere was great, the fans were great, and I can’t wait to be apart of it.”

Michael Carmody, OT, Mars High School, Class of 2020

Mars 2020 4-star OT Michael Carmody

”It was one of the craziest atmospheres for a college football game I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t believe how many fans were there considering it was like 50 degrees and rainy. The coaches and staff really went out of their way to make us feel like we were at home.”

Leslie Smith, LB, Florida, Pitt 2019 Commit

”My overall impression is that in the second half they came out a little sluggish. I feel that me and the other recruits can come make a change in the program.”

Jack Salopek, QB, Norwin High School, Class of 2020

2020 Norwin quarterback Jack Salopek

”I thought the atmosphere was great even with the rain all the fans were still fired up. I feel like the rain didn’t allow either team to show who they really are. Even after the tough loss, I know that the coaches will get the guys to bounce back.”

Davis Beville, QB, South Carolina, Pitt 2019 Commit

Pitt 2019 commitment Davis Beville

”I’d definitely say the score doesn’t rightfully show the team that Pitt is. I believe they will bounce back fast and be right back on track going into ACC play.”

AJ Woods, CB, Maryland, Pitt 2019 Commit

”I couldn’t make it (game on Friday was postponed and moved to Saturday)but I caught it on tv so I wasn’t able to get the full game experience but from what I saw I loved the energy the team had and can’t wait to be apart of a team like that and come out next year against Penn State.”

Josh Rawlings, TE, Woodland Hills High School, Class of 2020

“Although it was raining, there was a great atmosphere with all of the big name recruits from Western Pennsylvania and different states.”

Jaheim Thomas, 4-star LB, Ohio, Class of 2020

Ohio 2020 4-star linebacker Jaheim Thomas

”I’m still interested in Pitt as much as I was before. They still played good and you can’t win everything. They will surely bounce back from that lost.”
