Jeff Capel is in the midst of rebuilding the entire Panthers’ basketball roster. With five available scholarships, he had a very appealing sales message: significant playing time in the ACC conference.
The Panthers coaching staff has recently placed strong attention on Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) small forward Christian Brown (6-foot-7 inches, 205 pounds). The highly athletic 2019 forward can run the floor like a deer and finish on the break. His length, natural strength and exceptionally long arms (6-foot-9.5-inch wingspan) make him a formidable defender.
“Coach Capel came to see me play last week,” stated Brown. “Coach (Milan) Brown came to the City of Palms Classic to see my play on Monday”.
Brown, a four-star forward, plays with four-star center Kofi Cockburn (6-foot-10 inches, 260 pounds). Capel and staff believe that Brown and Cockburn would be a perfect complement to the current freshmen Trey McGowens, Xavier Johnson and Au’Diese Toney. Brown and McGowens are actually former teammates that know each other quite well.
“I’m a slash and hustle playmaker. I pride myself on defending the 1 (point guard) through 4 (power forward) positions,” he said. “A lot of teams now are going to positionless basketball so I’m happy to be a player that can play multiple positions whenever needed.
Brown is a near perfect match for the fast-paced style Jeff Capel has instituted at Pitt. “I like the vision Coach Capel has for the program’s future. I’ve had a chance to watch their games on television and I like their style of play and the ACC conference.”
“I plan on making a date to visit after the Christmas break.”
