Pitt Sights and Sounds: The Fog of War

Published

PITTSBURGH — A heavy fog settled down onto the banks of the Monongahela River on Tuesday, making the practice facility that the Pitt Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers share nearly invisible to an outside view as the Panthers returned to the practice field on Tuesday.

The team probably did not mind staying out of the public spotlight after a mistake-filled performance on Saturday night, under the lights at Heinz Field gave the Panthers an 0-1 start and created significant question marks about the trajectory of the team coming off its first ACC Coastal Division championship.

But if the view wasn’t much to speak of, the sounds were another story. The coaching staff launched into practice with a renewed vigor, with head coach Pat Narduzzi setting the tone for uptempo, upbeat working just moments after the team huddle.

The fully padded practice saw plenty of contact, too, and if there wasn’t enough for the coaching staff’s liking, they’d run the drill over again.

Check out Charlie Partridge, Andre Powell, Tim Salem and company getting game Week 2 going in this week’s sights and sounds:

SIGHTS AND SOUNDS

FULL HOUSE

Pitt freshman Vincent Davis is still practicing with the top group at running back, working in alongside A.J. Davis, Todd Sibley and V’Lique Carter. They also have two fullbacks working with the top unit: converted defensive end/linebacker/tight end Jim Medure and converted defensive tackle/offensive guard Rashad Wheeler. Wheeler continued to practice with the offense after Keyshon Camp was lost to an apparent knee injury during Week 1.

Not quite as bad as the Bears and the Eagles back in 88 when that famous footage of Jerome Brown was captured walking through the fog that day. I’ve never seen another game quite like that one. That was some real and lasting fog during that game.
