Pitt Sweeps Duke to Officially Clinch Outright ACC Title, NCAA Tourney Berth

Pitt volleyball swept Duke on Saturday, clinching outright the 2019 ACC Championship, their second straight outright title.

The No. 2 Panthers had already been assured of at least a share of the ACC title, their third consecutive season of earning at least a share of the ACC crown, by last Sunday’s five set win over Georgia Tech.

Facing the Blue Devils, Pitt dispensed with the drama. The Panthers won in straight sets, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-17 in a dominant performance.

Chinaza Ndee led the way with 12 kills, with Kayla Lund right behind with 11. Lexis Akeo recorded 32 assists and libero Hali Hillegas had 15 digs.

The Panthers improved to 26-1 on the season and 15-0 in ACC play. By virtue of winning the regular-season championship, Pitt also officially secured a berth in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, though the highly-rated Panthers would have been considered near locks, at any rate.

Pitt has three more matches before the Panthers get to postseason play. They’ll host Florida State on Friday, Nov. 22, visit NC State on Sunday, Nov. 24 and finish their regular season with Louisville at home on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Both of their remaining home matches will be played at Petersen Events Center.
