Gary Steen, a Reynolds junior who is currently ranked No. 4 in the country by FloWrestling at 113 pounds committed to wrestle for the Panthers Tuesday night.
Steen won the PIAA title as a freshman and placed third as a sophomore. This season he has already won the prestigious Ironman and Powerade tournaments.
Pitt wrestling coverage on Pittsburgh Sports Now is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Wrestling Club.
Gary is a lightweight, and looks like he could be a career 125 pounder, which is a coveted quality by D1 programs. To date, he is 107-6 in his career with 12 major decisions, 9 tech falls, and 38 pins.
Steen joins a slew of fellow recent Reynolds grads including Cole Rickert, Tyler Greer, and Cole Matthews by committing to Pitt.
Now the third member of Keith Gavin’s 2021 recruiting class, he’ll be accompanied by Brock McMillen and Luca Augustine.
This is great news!! I really hope he can stay at 125.. This is a really good class already. H2P!!
Great to see this. Way to go! Building a great foundation. So glad we hired this coach. Local WPIAL background — gets the fertile recruiting base around here.
Pitt a powerhouse in wrestling is such a natural. I am glad the university has recognized and emphasized the opportunity before them. Hope they continue to back the program strongly
