The pairings have been released for the 2020 WPIAL boys basketball playoffs.
The postseason will begin with first-round games starting on Friday, Feb. 14 and the championships will be held Feb. 27-29 at Petersen Events Center
In Class-6A, Butler, with Purdue-bound guard Ethan Morton, joined Fox Chapel, Mount Lebanon and Upper St. Clair with first-round byes. Leading scorer Zach Rocco (492 points) and Penn-Trafford will open with Central Catholic.
In Class-5A, Chartiers Valley, Mars, Penn Hills and Thomas Jefferson advanced directly to the quarterfinals. Laurel Highlands, with hyped freshman Rodney Gallagher faces Hampton in the first round.
In Class-4A, it’s Highlands, Knoch, Quaker Valley and Uniontown that will skip the first round. Belle Vernon, with 449-point scorer Devin Whitlock, will face Derry in the first round.
In Class-3A, 16 teams qualify, so everyone plays a first-round game. Aliquippa will face Steel Valley, with the top-in-class scorer Camden Polak, in the first round on Friday.
In Class-2A, Jeannette, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Sto-Rox received passes in the uneven bracket.
In Class-A, Bishop Canevin, Cornell and Vincentian Academy will not have to play in the first round.
