Pitt defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman has been named a preseason All-American by The Sporting News, the third outlet to honor him in advance of the 2020 season.

Twyman, a redshirt sophomore from Washington, D.C., was also named a pre-season All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation and Athlon Sports.

Twyman is one of the main components of one of the best defensive lines and overall best defenses in the country.

A full-time starter for the first time in his career in 2019, Twyman started all 13 games after making just one start in 2018. He recorded 12 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks, becoming the first defensive tackle to lead the Panthers in quarterback sacks since Aaron Donald in 2013.

The breakout performance last season earned Twyman second-team All-American and first-team All-ACC honors.

Twyman could have entered the 2020 NFL Draft, but chose to return to Pitt along with fellow defensive lineman Patrick Jones II and safeties Damar Hamlin and Paris Ford.

Ford has also been named a preseason All-American by Athlon Sports and was named a second-team preseason All-American by The Sporting News.
