WILKINSBURG, Pa. — The turf is brand new.

So are the lights, the press box, the video scoreboard, the press box and the fresh coat of purple and gray paint.

That’s what Chatham University and UPMC have done to Graham Field, the historic home of the Wilkinsburg Tigers, with a $3.1 million renovation for the Cougars’ lacrosse and soccer teams.

Though the Tigers haven’t played football since 2015, with the closing of Wilkinsburg High School, the newly renovated field will get plenty of action. For at least this season, it will be the home to both Central Catholic and Imani Christian.

The Saints opened the new stadium on Sept. 18 against Greensburg Central Catholic, before the Vikings met horns with North Allegheny on Friday night.

While there was plenty of new to be found at the facility just off Penn Avenue, the Tigers and Vikings have one of the oldest rivalries in WPIAL Class-6A. The teams entered ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the classification, with the Tigers knocking off the top-rated Vikings, 35-21.
