While the WPIAL will crown most of their 2020 football champions this coming weekend, their Class-6A winner has learned their first opponent in the upcoming state playoffs.
The PIAA has announced the brackets for the football playoffs which will get underway this coming weekend.
Central Catholic, which defeated North Allegheny for the 6A Championship, didn’t get a very favorable draw as they’ll essentially play a road game in what is traditionally supposed to be a neutral site game. Central Catholic will play McDowell at McDowell High School near Erie this coming Saturday at 1 p.m.
Instead of playing this game at a neutral site location, PIAA changed that because of COVID-19 and not wanting unnecessary travel for both teams provided the game location is within reason. If two teams are from the other side of the state, the PIAA would then play the game at a central location.
McDowell won the District 10 championship over Erie High by forfeit after members of the Erie team were exposed to coronavirus, according to the Erie Times-News.
