Between the talented group of incoming freshman, transfers and the development of last years recruiting class, Jeff Capel will have more depth and legitimate scoring options than he’s had in his first two seasons at Pitt.
While Trey McGowens and his 11.4 points/game are no longer here, Justin Champagnie, Xavier Johnson, Au’Diese Toney, Ithiel Horton, John Hugley, Noah Collier, Will Jeffress and others are returning and ready to start the season which begins in less than two weeks.
If Pitt is going to take that next jump as a program, more players on the roster are going to step up and develop into legitimate scoring options like Justin Champagnie did last season.
In his first season, the freshman from New York led the Panthers in scoring with 12.2 points per game, followed by Xavier Johnson (11.6), McGowens (11.4) and Au’Diese Toney (9.6).
Many people expect to see a more consistent Johnson in 2020, Toney had his most complete season in a Pitt uniform, Capel raved about what he saw from Horton in practice last season and a couple of the incoming freshman are talented enough to make an immediate impact, namely Hugley.
Our PSN Poll Question today is who will finish the season as Pitt’s leading scorer for the 2020-21 season?
