Notre Dame Offers Central Catholic 2022 DT Donovan Hinish

Notre Dame has enjoyed much success recruiting elite talent from Central Catholic High School and they again have their eyes on a talented junior lineman with ties to the program.

Four years ago, Brian Kelly received a commitment from former Central Catholic defensive tackle Kurt Hinish and tonight the Fighting Irish offered his younger brother.

Defensive tackle Donovan Hinish (6’2”, 270) has flown under the radar in terms of WPIAL 2022 Power 5 prospects but he’s not an unknown anymore after receiving an offer from Notre Dame, his first from a Division I school.

Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up with Hinish after he received the news and he was still very excited and even, at times, lost for words.

“When Coach Elston called and told me I was super excited,” said Hinish. “It was obviously great to get an offer from Notre Dame but to just get an offer in general was nice just to get my name out there. It was surreal is probably the best way to put it. It was honestly a dream come true.”

Hinish tells me that when the Notre Dame staff wanted him to call, he thought it was another ordinary recruiting call to check in on him and to continue building their relationship since they just recently got in touch with him after he released his film from his junior season.

”I told me dad right way because he was in the room with me and was the first person to hear what was going on,” said Hinish. “I then told mom and my brother was the third. My brother was excited but told me to stay calm, not get too excited and don’t get overwhelmed by it.”

To receive an offer means Hinish obviously has talent but when describing himself and his strengths, he got right to the point.

”I play with a nastiness and I have a motor that never stops. I’ll keep going until I break you.”

The bar is set pretty high with getting this type of offer and it would seem that Hinish is a lock to eventually play in South Bend, but he says that’s not necessarily the case.

”Notre Dame will be in my top couple but my recruitment is still open and I’m hoping to get a lot more offers. My recruitment is open to everyone.”
