Pitt has seven wrestlers in the national polls, including the team’s four NCAA qualifiers and three Panthers whose hopes of continuing their seasons rest on potential at-large bids. The Blue and Gold ended 2021 regular season at (3-4, 1-4 ACC) on the year. The squad took fifth at the 2021 ACC Championships in Raleigh, North Carolina on Feb. 28. In the process, the Panthers qualified four wrestlers for the 2021 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.

In Raleigh, Jake Wentzel won his second consecutive 165-pound ACC title. At 197, Nino Bonaccorsi earned his first ACC crown with a second win over Virginia’s Jay Aiello this season. Micky Phillippi fell just shy of capturing his third straight conference championship. The 133-pounder was a runner-up to Virginia Tech’s Korbin Myers. Cole Matthews battled to a third-place finish. All four earned automatic qualification to the  national tournament later this month.
