With the month long college recruiting dead period coming to an end on Sunday, programs will once again start hosting potential recruits on both official and unofficial visits.

Pat Narduzzi and his staff will be busy on Monday entertaining recruits, including a player that’s making the trip from Florida to visit Pitt for the first time.

2023 defensive back Dwight Bootle II, from Miami Palmetto High School in Miami, Florida, is in town and making his Pitt unofficial visit on Monday. This is impressive for Pitt to have gotten him to make the visit, with him holding early offers from Pitt, Michigan, Indiana, Ole Miss, Syracuse, Washington State, Marshall and Florida International.

Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke to Bootle as he was making his way over to the South Side to meet the Pitt staff and explained his decision to travel to Pittsburgh and when his relationship with the Panthers started.

“Coach Manalac and Pitt really liked me when they first saw me at the Florida International prospect camp in June,” Bootle told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “He saw something in me that he really liked and I got the Pitt offer and they’ve been on me heavy every since. I was really excited when I got the Pitt offer because ACC football is bigtime and super duper excited. I was so glad that after watching me that they saw something and decided to offer me. When I told Pitt that I was coming up to visit, they said that was good news and exciting news.

“I’m a hard working player that can do it all. All the colleges that I’ve talked to say that I’m a very explosive player, which helps with all parts of my game and makes me a better player. Pitt told me they like the way that I get in and out of my breaks and my ability to make plays. I believe that I could play at different places on the field and do it all but at this time, all schools are recruiting me as a cornerback.”

Making an unofficial visit to a school when you can drive to is one thing but making the investment in traveling by plane is another, which is what Bootle decided to do. I asked him about that and what he’s looking forward to seeing at Pitt.

“I wanted to come up and see Pitt because prior to the dead period starting, I wasn’t able to go anywhere on visits,” said Bootle. “My recruitment really jumped when the dead period started and I really wanted to get out an make visits. I’m excited about coming to Pitt because I know some people here (Emanuel Belgrave) and they’re always telling me how nice it is up here and I should come check it out. I decided to come check it out for myself.”

“I just want to be treated like family when it comes to me being there. I want to be treated like family, like I belong and like I’m one of them and a member of the team. At the end of the day, that’s going to help me make my decision, who loves me the most and who treats me like I’m one of them.”
