Twitter Reaction: Pitt Lays An Egg and Loses To Western Michigan
Published
2 years agoon
Coming off of that big win at Tennessee, the big concern heading into this afternoons game against Western Michigan was would Pitt come out with the energy and focus need to win? The Panthers entered the game as 14 point favorites but they didn’t look and play like a two touchdown favorite. The Pitt defense couldn’t contain quarterback Kaleb Eleby and their RPO offense and Western Michigan’s offensive and defensive lines dominated Pitt’s lines for four quarters.
The Panthers fall to Western Michigan, 44-41 and rightly so, the Pitt fan base isn’t happy.
We have not played a truly meaningful game in November in years. Pitiful.

Same old Pitt… but worse. They will never, ever, ever have a better chance at success than they did this season. And their defense couldn’t even rise up to the level of just “pretty shitty”.

A hell of a lot of "i dont know" in his comments. Well if you don't k own Pat who in the hell does? https://t.co/oEzt7PQshF

Pat Narduzzi is in his seventh year at Pitt. They’re not materially better than when he arrived and they’re going to lose to a MAC team in a basically empty stadium. At this point, it’s not clear to me what we’re doing
— Alex Kirshner (@alex_kirshner) September 18, 2021
The guy can recruit. But he is terrible at in game adjustments. Clueless as what to do when his plan doesn’t work.

Only thing to do after watching that game…drink…ALOT pic.twitter.com/piHoMVHIMV

The Chris Bickell ‘97 Head Football Coach’s team possessed the ball for only 20 minutes at home against Western Michigan.
— Mark Kaboly (@MarkKaboly) September 18, 2021
Can’t do nothing but point the thumb, Western Michigan wanted it more #H2P

WMU coach Tim Lester said he watched video of 2015 Syracuse/Pitt game (he was SU offensive coordinator) about "300 times" this week.
Said he knew exactly what to expect against Narduzzi.
Added Pitt added a few wrinkles but overall it was same approach as 6 yrs ago.— Will Graves (@WillGravesAP) September 18, 2021
Pat Narduzzi came in to a decently talented roster and road one upset over Clemson to 6 years of idiotic game planning and decision making. He is so arrogant everyone should dance on his coaching grave when hes ousted.
— leyon2992 (@Leyon2992) September 18, 2021
Prideful and undeservedly arrogant. Change your defense or get changed yourself.
— Link Hogthrob (@mattstestlab1) September 18, 2021
Guess Pitt won't be scheduling Duquesne any time soon 😛
— Rob Polinsky (@poman927) September 18, 2021
I’m a #Pitt fan. I’ll always be a #Pitt fan, but today’s loss was unacceptable. Consistency eludes the Panthers yet again.
— Harry G. Psaros (@PittGuru) September 18, 2021
@LRiddickESPN I know you have a great job right now & the rumors about you being an NFL GM sound pretty good. Have you ever thought about being the Head Coach at The University of Pittsburgh? 🤷🏾♂️ Just asking for some friends. #H2P
— ANTHONY DORSETT, JR. (@DORSETTJR) September 18, 2021
Simply unacceptable and indefensible! It’s time for ADHL to start looking for a replacement for the whatever the sponsorship name is #Pitt Head Coach! https://t.co/Vx8w6uWB5U

There’s no way around this loss. It’s Unjustifiable.

when will he be fired
— Brock Madanick (@BrockMadanick) September 18, 2021
Embarrassed again!

No way in hell can he still be the coach tomorrow morning.
— Mike Ross (@IronCity_Mike) September 18, 2021
My mom always told me.. “if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all” ouch… Pitt loses to WMU 44-41 @KDKA
— Rich Walsh KDKA (@RichieWalsh) September 18, 2021
Kenny Pickett is the QB Pat Narduzzi has been waiting for to make that breakthrough season happen. You can’t lose games like this in Year 7. With the way Kenny played?? No excuse on that. Simple as that. Awful loss.
— Nick Farabaugh (@Nick_Farabaugh) September 18, 2021
I spent $19,000 a semester for my kid to go to Pitt. Plus another $4,500 for 5 season tickets and the $250 Panther Club Scholarship Membership Fee. Why waste that money every year to watch this garbage.
— Pitt Is It (@PittPanthers_1) September 18, 2021
How do you lose to a MAC team when your quarterback throws 6 touchdown passes?
— Andrew Fillipponi (@ThePoniExpress) September 18, 2021
Narduzzi is an awful coach. He’s all talk
— Drew🏀 (@drewfino15) September 18, 2021
🤬
— Louis Riddick (@LRiddickESPN) September 18, 2021
I was watching a preseason CFB show and one of the comments was “Narduzzi’s Pitt teams win one game they shouldn’t win but lose 2 games to somebody they have no business losing to…”
— P1TTFAN (@P1TTFAN) September 18, 2021
Pat Narduzzi isn’t going to make Pitt a relevant program. They’re going to be 6-6, 7-5 maybe 8-4 every year with him as head coach. Which isn’t rock bottom. But I think Pitt fans have WAY HIGHER expectations. Probably too high frankly.
— Andrew Fillipponi (@ThePoniExpress) September 18, 2021
44 at home to a MAC school. Wow. S.O.P. Same Ol’ Pitt. No program in America undercuts its own enthusiasm & momentum like the Panthers do. Every yr they do this. Like I said on the @BetRivers podcast, Pitt is good enough to win 10 in the ACC.But they won’t just cuz they are Pitt
— Tim Benz (@TimBenzPGH) September 18, 2021
Beat an SEC team then lose to a MAC team the next week…yeah this sounds like Pitt… https://t.co/K4AyRhTtay
— Sports with Shenanigans Podcast 🎙 (@ShenaniganGuys) September 18, 2021
This is so, so Pitt. You can't ever trust Pitt. Never.
— Mark Madden (@MarkMaddenX) September 18, 2021
The 44 points scored by @WMU_Football at Pitt were their 3rd most in a non-conference road game since joining the FBS in 1962 (51 at Idaho in 2008, 45 at Idaho in 2014). #LetsRide @EliasSports
— Matt Martingale (@MattMartingale) September 18, 2021
Remember when the Tennessee game was the most important of the season and that Pitt needed to win it to prove they were different? Yeah me neither
— Paul Zeise (@PaulZeise) September 18, 2021
Pitt Lose at home to Western Michigan with Western Michigan having key players on their rosters from the #WPIAL that were supposedly not good enough to play for PITT. It’s a debacle this can’t happen.🤦🏼♂️
— WPIAL Sportsmen (@wpialsportsnews) September 18, 2021
Sometimes you lose to a team like that on fluky stuff or whatever, but that wasn’t the case here. Unprepared, outcoached, inability to adjust. Defense shredded all game on the same stuff. Offense scoring at will and yet can’t stop a MAC offense. Just horrible.
— Brian McElhinny (@rtjr) September 18, 2021
Turnovers and penalties have been a Narduzzi era staple. Cost him a loss to a MAC team today after just beating an SEC team. Lyke’s been a phenomenal recruiter in hiring good coaches. Who would come to Pitt, if Heather fires Duzz?
— Jim Diller (@Pitt_Die_Hard) September 18, 2021
Brutal
— EdOBrienCFB (@EdOBrienCFB) September 18, 2021
This is the most Pitt thing ever.
To be followed Oct. 23 when Panthers stun Clemson.
That’s the Narduzzi way! pic.twitter.com/6H639fv01v— Cory Giger (@CoryGiger) September 18, 2021
Pitt needs to put this on top of the Cathedral tonight… pic.twitter.com/1TLvpqAnDX
— Bob Greenburg (@BobGreenburg) September 18, 2021
And add yet another mind blowing loss to a highly favored Pitt team’s history.
Pitt never fails to disappoint.
— Mike Drakulich / Pittsburgh SportsNation (@PghSportsNation) September 18, 2021
Unacceptable but expected
— Mark Kaboly (@MarkKaboly) September 18, 2021
The Coastal Division is such a crapshoot it's easy to make a case on why Pitt will win it.
But if you want to change the perception of your program, you can't give up 44 points and 500+ yards to a team picked to finish third in the MAC Western Division.
WMU 44, Pitt 41.
Final
— Will Graves (@WillGravesAP) September 18, 2021
One of my best Pitt friends: “Every die hard Pitt fan saw this coming. This happens to us over and over again.”
— Andrew Fillipponi (@ThePoniExpress) September 18, 2021
Time to clean house…. #Pitt
— Rick Notari (@TheBigBlueDevil) September 18, 2021
@CoachDuzzPittFB your defense cost us this game! Absolute crap show!

Fire them all
— Justin W. (@NFLGimpy) September 18, 2021
Pitt is Pitt.
— Capel Faithful (@CapelFaithful) September 18, 2021
Pitt losing at home to a MAC team — a week after beating an SEC team on the road — is embarrassing, but predictable.
— Mitchell Northam (@primetimeMitch) September 18, 2021
Western Michigan beat Pitt by running a power from the gun.
OVER.
AND.
OVER.
AND.
OVER.
AGAIN.
— Adam (@aed12pitt) September 18, 2021
Inexcusable slop football. Ridiculous.
Pitt lost to a better team today! It’s been like this for 6 years.
Our always play man defense (no matter what) doesn’t play press at the line and therefore the WRs are wide open at the line and also run free after the line. It’s the same over and over. Good QBs will always beat us. If Narduzzi doesn’t change his D scheme, he needs to go! It’s not 1980 anymore!!!
H2P
Whole staff should be fired. D was swiss cheese. Whip loves running plays that never work over and over again.
Narduzzi is the dangerous combination of arrogant, stubborn and dumb. He begs people to show up to games, and when we do, refuses to make any changes or adjustments. Loses to WESTERN Michigan.
Even gets his team a 15 yard penalty over NOTHING.
He will say that he need to “go back and look at the film and clean things up”. Yet, nothing will change.
He has a stacked team and once again blows it.
How does he have a job with Pitt at this point?
People are going to mostly complain about the defense, but let’s not overlook the 44 yards rushing on 13 Carries today from guys not named Kenny Pickett. By my count this the third year in a row they’ve had an offensive line that can’t run block.
This is what happens when a Coach thinks he is better than what he is. He will not change, we are going to get the same result. It is time for a change, how long before the AD sees what the fans already know he will never bring us to prominence, only heartbreak. We will always be in Penn State’s shadow.
