PITTSBURGH — During Pitt’s victory over Gannon on Monday night, the Panthers lost a key piece to injury as guard Nike Sibande went down with a knee issue in the first half.
“Not sure of the status of Nike’s injury yet,” Jeff Capel said postgame. “Hopefully we will know a little bit more tomorrow. Certainly that’s a blow for us. Depending on what happens, it could be an opportunities for others to step up.”
Sibande did not score in the game, going 0 for 1 in 7:57 of playing time.
“He said that he, earlier, he banged knees,” Capel continued. “He went knee-to-knee with someone and then tried to play through it. And then when he went on the under out of bounds to receive the pass, he came to a jump stop and his knee gave out.”
Sibande started the game, and was Pitt’s second leading returning scorer after averaging 6.9 points per game last season for the Panthers.
