The first off-season departure from the Duquesne men’s basketball roster has happened.
Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that sophomore guard Toby Okani has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Duquesne basketball on Pittsburgh Sports Now is sponsored by The Summit Academy: setting young men on the path to a better future.
Okani tells Pittsburgh Sports Now- “I have a lot of love for Duquesne and the coaches for giving me an opportunity.”
The 6-foot-8 guard from Orange, New Jersey has played in 48 games over the last two seasons for the Dukes. This season, Okani averaged 3.9 points, 3.7 rebounds in 19 minutes per game and shot 36.4% from the field and only 19.4% from 3-point range. Okani put up similar numbers last season as he averaged 4.7 points, 3.5 rebounds in 19 minutes per game.
Following the heavy volume of transfers from last season, Okani was expected to take on more of a central role this season but wasn’t able to do that behind Kevin Easley and the deep Duquesne guard rotation.
Okani arrived at Duquesne as a 3-star recruit and held other offers from Minnesota, UMass, Hofstra, Coastal Carolina and Fairfield.
